It is with deep sadness and profound respect that Berry Moorman PC mourns the passing of Randolph M. “Randy” Wright, a beloved shareholder, former President, mentor, colleague, veteran, and friend. Randy passed away on May 27, 2026, at the age of 80.
For nearly three decades, Randy was an essential part of Berry Moorman PC. His legal talent, steady leadership, sound judgment, and unwavering integrity helped shape the firm in lasting ways. He was a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor to colleagues, and a respected leader whose presence brought wisdom, perspective, and confidence to those around him.
Born in Detroit in 1946, Randy lived a life marked by service, discipline, and purpose. After earning his degree from Western Michigan University, he served honorably as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer during the Vietnam War before returning home to earn his law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He went on to build a distinguished legal career, earning wide respect for his work in corporate law, international business, negotiation and global diplomacy.
Randy’s professional work reached far beyond Michigan. He helped Berry Moorman expand internationally, played a meaningful role in historic business negotiations in Russia, supported peacebuilding efforts through the NGO, Search for Common Ground, and remained committed to international justice, including work connected to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Yet for all he accomplished professionally, Randy never lost sight of the importance of service to others. As a Vietnam veteran, he cared deeply about the veteran community and devoted significant time and leadership to supporting those who served. Through his involvement with Vietnam Veterans of America Detroit Chapter 9 and his leadership as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Chapter 9 Trust, Randy helped strengthen one of Detroit’s most respected veteran organizations. He also supported efforts to help veteran-owned businesses gain visibility, credibility, and opportunity, recognizing the importance of helping veterans build meaningful futures after service.
Randy was the kind of person people trusted. Whether advising clients, mentoring colleagues, supporting veterans, or serving his community, he brought wisdom and integrity, to every endeavor. He generously shared his time and knowledge, always willing to offer guidance, perspective, or encouragement when it was needed most.
Throughout his distinguished career, Randy earned numerous professional honors, including recognition as a Super Lawyer, a DBusiness Top Lawyer, and an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. While these honors reflected the high regard in which he was held by the legal profession, they tell only part of the story.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Randy will remember him not only as an exceptional attorney and respected leader, but as a thoughtful mentor, loyal friend, proud veteran, and genuinely caring individual. His character, generosity, and commitment to others left a lasting impression on everyone whose lives he touched.
Randy’s passing is a significant loss for his family, his friends, Berry Moorman PC, the legal community, and the many veterans and organizations he supported. His life reflected service, leadership, integrity, and a genuine commitment to helping others. He strengthened the institutions he served, supported the people around him, and left a lasting impact through his work, mentorship, and dedication.
