John Schrot’s commentary article was featured in Michigan Lawyers Weekly August 8, 2016, entitled “Same-Sex Marriage Prompts Need to Update Michigan Custody Laws.”
The articles discusses how technology outpaces the law, in particular in a recent Michigan family law dispute involving a same-sex couple and minor children. Non-biological parents’ parental rights must be recognized if consistent with the best interests of the child(ren). Therefore, there is a need to update Michigan custody and parenting time laws.
